GMC has a winner in the mid-sized truck market with the third-generation GMC Canyon. Beginning in 2023, this is the third year of production. It is offered in three trim levels, starting with the Canyon Elevation. For off-road enthusiasts, they have the Canyon AT4. Finally, for the owner who wants all the bells and whistles, including lots of chrome, there is the Canyon Denali. The one pictured here is in the new 2025 color, called Glacier Metallic, and is only offered on the Canyon Denali. It is a unique color that sometimes looks blue or sometimes has a grey hue, all depending on the sunlight or lack thereof.

All the Canyon trim levels come with the TurboMax 2.7L inline-four engine. This impressive engine is capable of delivering 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. Also standard is an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Denali has a four-wheel drive drivetrain with an automatic locking rear differential. Gas mileage has an EPA-estimated 18 mpg city and 22 mpg on the highway. That fuel mileage seems about right from what I am seeing so far. It rides and drives beautifully, and as of now, I have zero complaints about its handling.

It is a four-door crew cab with a 5-foot-2-inch bed. The tailgate has a unique storage compartment and has a soft-open which lets the tailgate down slowly and smoothly. The front has all LED lights, including fog lights, and even has tow hooks. The wheel fenders all include working marker lights. The truck sits high with a two-inch lift from the factory and has an aggressive appearance. The wheels are 20-inch diamond-cut aluminum with 275/60R20 Bridgestone Dueler A/T tires. Chromed running boards run the length of the cab and are a little bulky in my opinion. The bed comes with a factory-installed spray-in bedliner, a 120V outlet, and eight tie-down anchors.

It comes with what GMC calls the ProGrade Trailering System, with a long list of features to make towing as easy as possible. Some of these include cameras to assist in hitching up and driving, a trailering app to help with settings and safety, trailer sway control, auto grade braking, trailer brake controller, seven and four pin plugs, and a class III hitch. Most impressive is the 7700-pound towing capacity and the 900-pound tongue weight. The Denali has a GVWR of 6250 pounds and a maximum payload capacity of 1357 pounds. Remember to always take all the weights the vehicle is rated for into account when figuring out what you can safely tow.

The interior is first class all the way from a leather-wrapped steering wheel to air-cooled leather seats and two-tone coloring. The gauge cluster is all digital and allows customization, multiple fingertip controls on the steering wheel, and a very informative heads-up display. The infotainment center is a large 11.3 inches and includes everything a tech junkie could want and a little bit more. An entire article could be written on just this alone, with cameras, safety features, Google Maps, Alexa, multiple driving modes, adaptive cruise control, and much more. I was excited to get Android Auto, but quickly found out I did not need it because the Infotainment center does it all by itself.
I have bought used vehicles for the last 25 years. When I saw this Denali, I made an exception and bought it new. GMC has done a great job of hitting all the marks for a truly luxurious, comfortable, good-looking, and very capable truck.
